Rapidly growing population causing major challenges: DC

SARGODHA, Jul 11 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Capt (retd) Aurangzeb Haider Khan has said rapidly growing population is creating major challenges including shortage in resources and unemployment.
He expressed these views while addressing a seminar held in connection with the World Population Day at Arts Council Complex under the Population Welfare office on Thursday. Officers of Population Welfare Department, representatives of NGOs, Ulema and people of various walks of life participated in the seminar.
The DC said rapidly growing population is affecting the country resources and causing environment pollution as well. “It is not only government responsibility to control the growing population but also social responsibility, and the endure progress is connected with effective population control system,” he added.
District Population Welfare Officer Malik Aftab Awan said that the department is utilising all resources and workforce to control population by educating citizens through effective awareness programmes in the district.
“All facilities including reproductive health and contraceptives drugs are being provided free in the Punjab,” he said.
Malik Aftab Awan said awareness is being imparted through ulema in society.
The deputy commissioner distributed prizes among field staff of Population Welfare Department, representatives of non-government organisations and others.
Later, the DC led an awareness walk which started from Arts Council Complex and ended at Azadi Chowk.
