Mirpur-AJK Medical College wins in UN-Model Debate Contest titled ‘Palestine-Israel Conflict’

MIRPUR, Jun 02 (APP): Two students from the Literary Society of the State-run Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur secured distinction as the best debaters at a UN-Model debate contest titled ‘Palestine-Israel Conflict’ hosted at the local campus of the public-sector Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST) on Saturday.

The triumphant debaters include Fatima Maqbool and Muhammad Shohaib from Mirpur MBBS College, who were highly lauded by the audience following their outstanding performance, MBBS Mirpur College Management told APP here on Sunday.
“Fatima emerged as the second best delegate in the competition, as announced by the jury,” they said.

Three members of the MBBS College’s Literary Society, including Ayesha Iqbal (vice head of English debate), Fatima Maqbool (m-11), and Muhammad Shohaib (m-13), jumped into the keenly contest debate competition.

A total of 12 delegates represented different countries in the debate contest. Fatima represented China, and Shohaib represented Iraq in the contest.

According to the salient features of the contest, the debaters first voted on the agendas, of which the two-nation solution agenda was selected. Then each of them wrote their respective position on the determined agenda, followed by speeches or debates on the determined topic. The contest concluded with a resolution passed by majority vote.
The jury was composed of teachers from different departments headed by the IR Department of the MUST who led the session.
