KARACHI, Jan 19 (APP): Chairman Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani here on Tuesday said healthy culture of students and trade unionism was crucial to groom future leaders of the country.
Responding to media queries in Karachi University premises, following International Pakistan History Conference attended by him,the chairman of the upper house of parliament strongly supported proposition to restore students’ and labours’ unions across the
country.
He cited these unions as nurseries for national level leaders.”We are in dire need to prepare our youth with leadership qualities so as to steer the country through national as well as
global challenges in the coming years”, said Rabbani He said student unions are the most potent nurseries to not only cultivate leadership qualities on our youth but also strengthen
them for the task.
“Labour unions are also equally relevant as these provide crucial base to train those from working class with educated backgrounds,” said the Senate Chairman in reply to a question.
He regretted that PPP government in its tenure failed to pay attention towards the critical need.
All political parties have to look into the issue as otherwise the unattended vacuum would be filled by elements that have exposed us to serious threats, said Mian Raza Rabbani.
He said the issue would be raised by the senate and national as well as provincial governments would also be taken on board. To another query, he said Senate has adopted eight different bills related to mandatory provision for timely and cost effective
justice for the masses.
He said the draft of these bills framed by Senate’s Steering Committee also incorporated recommendation of relevant stakeholders including the office of Supreme Court of Pakistan and political parties.
Raza Rabbani hoped that national assembly too would unanimously adopt these as essential pieces of legislation in the interest of masses in general.
