ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 (APP): Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country in the next 24 hours, according to Met Office.

However, light rain with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in Malakand division and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Shallow foggy condition is likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab and Upper Sindh during morning hours.

In the next 48 hours, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country.

However, rain with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Quetta, Zhob divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan. Shallow foggy conditions are likely to prevail over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.

Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country.

A fresh westerly weather system is likely to enter the country from Wednesday night.

During the previous day, rain with snowfall over the hills occurred at scattered places of Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.  Weather remained cold and dry in other parts of the country.

The lowest temperatures were recorded at Parachinar at -10øC, Gupis, Kalam, Kalat, Skardu -04øC, Hunza -03øC and Dir and Astore 02øC. 15 mm rain fell in Parachinar, 12 mm in Balakot, 08 mm in Dir, 7 mm in Lower Dir, 4 mm in Garidupatta, 3 mm in Malamjabba, Kakul, Gilgit and Chilas,  2 mm in Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Murree and 1 mm in Sialkot.

While 5 inches of snow fell in Astore, 2 in Skardu and one inches in Kalam.
