ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): A five-member junior squash squad left for UK on Tuesday to feature in the British Junior Squash Championship, scheduled to be held at Sheffield from January 2 to 6.

“The US Junior Open winner, Israr Ahmed will participate in under 19 group, while Mehran Javed, Own Abbas, Mansoor Zaman and Abdul Malik will take part in under 17 group”, Secretary Pakistan Squash Federation Amir Nawaz told APP.

He said that the players had departed from Karachi Airport after participating in the 9th DG Rangers (Sindh) squash championship.

Nawaz said that the federation was pinning high hopes on Israr after his superb performance in the recently held the United States Junior Open squash championship.

The US Junior Open is the largest junior squash tournament in the world and after the World Junior and the British Junior Open championships is considered as the third most prestigious junior open squash championship.

Israr won the US Junior Open Squash Championship title defeating his opponent Rod Tucker by 11-9, 11-8, 7-11 and 11-8. “Though British Junior Open is a tough event as compared to the US Junior Open, but we believe Israr is capable of winning this event too,” Nawaz said.

He said that other players were also good in shape and believed that they would also produce good results.
