LAHORE, Oct 12 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said 12th of October 1999 was a Black Day in the political history of Pakistan when a dictator toppled peoples’ elected government and dismantled the progress and prosperity of the masses.

He said activists of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) always gave  valuable sacrifices for the restoration of democracy.

In his message, the chief minister said democratic and military leadership were collectively waging a war against terrorism.

“12th of October is being observed as Black Day to condemn toppling of a constitutionally elected government of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif by military dictator Pervez Musharraf in 1999,” he said and added that it was the day when Pervez Musharraf abrogated the Constitution and arrested the elected Prime Minister who had come to power with two third majority. He said the dictator also victimized PML N leaders and other political parties by initiating cases against them.

The day was being observed to highlight role of democracy in resolving the national issues with consensus, he added.
