ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (APP): Minister for Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Qadir Baloch Thursday informed the Senate that road maintenance work near Dargai check post in Malakand Agency would be completed in 2016.
During the question-hour, he said four-lanes of the road had been completed while the work on two rigid-lanes would be completed by June, 2016.
Explaining the road project, he said that the N-45 was one of the
busiest roads where about 20,000 vehicles were plying daily.
He said a major check post had been established there by security
forces to check vehicles coming from and going to the Swat valley, and
all were thoroughly inspected “to control explosive materials and
radical elements.”
The minister said some vehicles were separated on a side road for
detailed search by off-loading passengers on a side-road that needed
repair along with provision of Bus Bays and Passenger Sheds.
Accordingly, he said, it was decided to provide a six-lane road in
between the check posts to facilitate checking of the vehicles with
increased check points which would be helpful in smooth flow of
traffic.
Out of which, four lanes were of flexible pavement and two additional
lanes would be rigid.
The National Highway Authority had awarded a contract amounting to Rs
18.317 million for improvement of Dargai Check Post , which was
completed in December, 2014, while tender for remaining and additional
work was in the process and the work shall be completed in June,
2016.
