Women’s role vital role in making society a ‘hub of peace’: First lady

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP):First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi on Wednesday said women through their positive approach can play a significant role in ridding the society of the curse of intolerance and extremism.
Addressing at the two-day conference on the “Role of Pakistani women in social harmony and peace” here at the Faisal Mosque campus of International Islamic University, the first lady said no country could progress without the active participation of its women in national development.
Begum Alvi said with increase of cases of prejudice, mental stress and anxiety in the society, the women as mothers had a particular role to inculcate in their young generations the moral values based on harmony and affinity.
She said the identity of a Pakistani at international level should be as an ambassador of peace.
The first lady stressed for providing opportunities to women to achieve higher education and help them join mainstream fields in parallel with their male counterparts.
She called for discouraging the negative mindset in society against the working and professional women so as to raise a strong workforce for national economy.
She said women must be given their due rights in inheritance as enunciated by Islam and emphasized on sensitizing the women about it.
The first lady mentioned that one woman dies in Pakistan due to breast cancer every 15 minutes and urged the need for raising awareness through media to fight the disease.
