ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP):Minister for Housing and Works Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema Thursday vowed giving a detailed briefing about Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme to Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works in its next meeting being held next week.

Briefing the committee about Federal Government Employees Housing Authority Bill 2019, he said the federal cabinet had imposed ban on the construction of new government houses in 1995. Federal government employees were in trouble due to shortage of houses.

Still over 30,000 employees were on the waiting list for getting official accommodation.

He said an authority would be established after the enactment of the Bill. The authority would only be responsible for transfer and allotment of the plots.

Regarding federal capital he said the powers of buying or selling land in federal capital would remain with the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The meeting chaired by Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi reviewed the Bill in detail. Some members conveyed their observations over some clauses of the Bill.

The chairman asked the members to submit their reservation to the ministry of Housing and Works and decided to review the bill again in the next meeting to be held next week.

The committee decided to again review the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority Bill 2019 in next meeting after receiving input from members of the committee.

Senator Kulsoom Parveen, Behramand Khan Tangi, Lt Gen (Retd) Salahuddin Tirmizi and Chaudhry Tanveer said they have reservations over some clauses of the bill. There should be a governing body along with the executive body and departments included in other groups should be elaborated. There should be a budget account committee.

The committee decided to summon CDA officials in next meeting about the issue of Senator Behramand Khan Tangi.

Senator Lt Gen Salahuddin Tirmizi, Ch Tanveer Khan, Behramand Khan Tangi, Khanzada Khan,Sajjad Hussain Turi, Dr Shahzad Waseem, Brigadier Johan Kenneth Wallium, and Kulsoom Parveen, and officials of Ministry of Housing and Works attended the meeting.
