Prospect of expats' participation in next general elections becomes brighter

ISLAMABAD, Apr 9 (APP):Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday discussed the matters related to the holding of Local Government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting which was chaired by Secretary ECP Babar Yaqoob received briefing on completion of tenure of local bodies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and arrangements for new elections.
The meeting was informed that the tenure of local bodies would expire in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 28 and under Election Act 2017, there was constitutional obligation of holding of new election of local bodies within 120 days after expiry of tenure.
During meeting, the provincial government was asked to complete work on act and rules before April 30 as the ECP needed sufficient time before elections regarding preparation of constituencies and electoral rolls besides training of staff.
Representatives from provincial government informed the meeting that a draft on proposed amendments for local government act had been prepared which would soon be presented before the provincial cabinet.
Provincial Secretary Local Government assured to complete the legislation work before April 30.
