ISLAMABAD, March 29 (APP):Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has said that Earth Hour was an effort at protecting and creating a world with a better environment.
He said people of the world today were divided and segregated on many counts. “One thing, however, which we all have in common, is the Planet Earth.”
In his message on the occasion of Earth Hour, Sanjrani said climate change was directly or indirectly related to human activity that altered the composition of global atmosphere.
He said that impacts of changed ecological patterns presented a picture that necessitated focused, persistent and coordinated actions about climate change and other related consequences which would have severe repercussions for global economy and societies.
The active participation of Senate in the Earth Hour was also important in the context that the Upper House constituted first of its kind Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change in addition to the already functioning Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change.
He said this fact was testament to Parliament’s commitment to effectively tackling the climate change issue and bringing the Earth back to its normal ecological systems by taking measures for it.
On Saturday, March 30, 2019, lights at the Parliament House will be switched off at 8 30pm.
The Chairman Senate urged the people of Pakistan to support and practically implement the earth hour movement by switching off lights and playing their part in protecting our homes.
