Govt to protect rights of persons with disabilities on priority: Mazari

ISLAMABAD, Mar 18 (APP):Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari here on Monday said that the government was focusing on social protection to the persons with disabilities to overcome their problems.
Talking to APP, she said that “Government was committed to ensure the rights of every citizen adding that the steps were being taken to ensure the rights of the persons with disabilities”.
Shireen Mazari said that all steps were taken to formulate plan of action for true implementation of this strategy.
She said that traditional disability-related social welfare schemes have mainly focused on poverty rather than taking into account specific challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
The minister underlined that Pakistan ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of PWDs which required to establish mechanism to monitor implementation of the convention.
