LAHORE, Mar 10 (APP):The First Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) Inter Club Golf Final Tournament will be contested at the historic Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course over three days from 15th March to 17th March.
Weeding out rounds were held last month and while Rawalpindi Golf Club emerged as the champion club of Punjab,PAF Golf Club Peshawar was the leading club of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. As for the Federal Territory, the combination of PAF Golf Club, Islamabad and Garden City Golf Club surfaced as the top ones .Baluchistan did not prequalify nor did the Sind Golfers, said a spokesman of Pakistan Golf Federation while talking to APP here on Sunday.
He said this is the first such golf championship and represents an exciting initiative on the part of Pakistan Golf Federation as for the first time clubs have been involved in a battle of this category
where the participating teams comprise of two professional golf players, four amateurs, two junior professionals, two ladies, two junior boys and two junior girls. It is expected that in years to come this encounter of golf skills will become a principal championship of the annual golf calendar of the country.
Form of play will be stroke play gross and the club team that emerges as the champion team will earn a cash prize of one million rupees. During the days of the contest high quality golf is expected
and some nerve shattering moments are likely to develop as the combat will be stiff and stressful, he added.
The spokesman said another interesting event will be held on the
14th March and this is another first and it is the PGF Long Drive Competition. Long Drive is a sporting duel where success is derived
by hitting a golf ball the farthest by driving.Eligible to participate
are Professional Golfers, Amateurs and Ladies. From amongst the Professionals only those players can qualify who have a minimum
driving distance of 275 yards.For amateur players the qualifying
distance is 250 yards and for ladies it is 150 yards.The professional
who hits the longest drive will get a cash prize of Rs 100,000. And
the amateur with the longest drive will fetch a 3 wood as a prize.
Similarly the winning lady will win a hybrid golf club.
