ISLAMABAD, Mar 8 (APP):Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri Friday said the government had taken steps to implement the Shariah Act 1991 and Senate should give its suggestions so that further measures could be taken.
Speaking at the floor of the Senate, he said Pakistan was established in the name of Islam but objective of creating an Islamic state, could not be attained. He said the government had consistently taken the stance that it wanted to establish state of Madina by transforming Pakistan on that model.
He said a document, titled Pegham-e-Pakistan signed by 900 religious scholars,
was an effort to promote narrative of interfaith harmony and discourage spread
of extremism.
