ISLAMABAD, Feb 27 (APP):Minister of State for Interior,Shehryar Khan Afridi on Wednesday said Pakistani nation should not be challenged or threatened, otherwise results would be more surprising.
The government, people of Pakistan and our brave armed forces are united and on one page and would leave no stone unturned in safeguarding the motherland, he said.
Addressing a session entitled: “Evolution of Terrorist Threat and Media Coverage at International Conference on Media and Conflict”, organized by Pakistan Peace Collective at Bahria University Islamabad, the Minister said, “We have sacrificed a lot in war against terrorism. Every Pakistani is willing to sacrifice for the country.”
He said matchless sacrifices rendered by armed forces of the country
in war against terrorism are laudable and added the role played by
armed forces of Pakistan in war against terrorism would be written
in annals of history in golden words.

“We will not compromise on our values. We will not let our
motherland be used for any subversive activities,” he said.
The main auditorium of the university consisting a large
number of students erupted in applause when Shehryar
Afridi shared that Pakistan had shot down two Indian fighter
jets.
“We do not want war. We have suffered tremendously.
Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be considered as our
weakness. National security is our top priority and we will never
compromise on it,” he said.
The shooting down of Indian jets will make it clear to
India to “never challenge us,” he said.
The Minister also advised media on how to report
responsibly as “humanity is suffering and bleeding at all
levels.”
He said media is fourth pillar of the state and you need to
know roots and be aware of consequences of how to do needful in
best possible manner.
The Minister remarked that reporters need to think about
national interests and never compromise for any personal
agenda. The media industry should not be profit-driven, he added.
“We need to practically insert policies through which
we can achieve our desired object,” he said.
He said media has been using sensitive issues to attract
audiences, adding that reporting is representation and we need
to realize our responsibility.
“It is high time to become one as future is of Pakistan
and our country will rise and shine. Pakistan would emerge as an
important country which would have significant role in affairs of
world. We must know importance of humanity and to show our commitment for common welfare,” he said.
The other panelists including Dr. Hassan Abbas of National
Defence University USA, Zaffar Abbas, Editor Dawn, Quatrina Hosain,
Senior Journalist and Managing Editor Independent Urdu, Haroon
Rasheed also took part in discussion and highlighted the problems
being faced in conflict reporting.
They also shed light on social media worldwide, saying this medium is expected to flourish more and more
in coming years.
