ISLAMABAD, Nov 07 (APP):A 10-day capacity-building training programme for midwives was conducted at the Mother and Child Health (MCH) Centre of the Federal Government Polyclinic to improve the quality of maternal and newborn healthcare services.
The training was organized by the Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health (PNFWH) with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), marking the third training cohort for midwives serving at the Midwifery-Led Care Unit (MLCU) in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
Under the guidance of experienced master trainers, participants enhanced their professional competencies, practical skills and confidence to provide high-quality, woman-centred and respectful maternity care to pregnant women and mothers.
The programme included hands-on practical sessions focusing on essential maternal healthcare practices, particularly Respectful Maternity Care (RMC), breastfeeding support and effective breastfeeding positioning.
Participants appreciated the practical learning opportunities, particularly their direct engagement with mothers, which helped them strengthen their understanding of compassionate and evidence-based maternity care.
The initiative aims to strengthen the role of skilled midwives in maternal healthcare delivery and promote safer pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal care through improved professional training and capacity building.
