ISLAMABAD, Nov 07 (APP):More than 28 per cent of the Islamabad Expressway Service Road (East) project, involving the construction of a dual carriageway from Faizabad to Gulberg, has been completed, while authorities have sealed 58 buildings and demolished 124 structures as part of an enforcement operation along the route.
The 9.3-kilometre-long project envisages a dual carriageway with three lanes on each side to improve traffic flow along the busy Islamabad Expressway.
According to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), excavation, sub-grade and sub-base work is under way at various sections of the road. Construction of an underpass, a key component of the project, is also progressing, with all 153 piles completed.
Work on culverts for bridges and drainage infrastructure is also under way.
Separately, the CDA has launched an enforcement drive against illegal constructions, encroachments, unauthorised commercial activities and violations of building regulations along the service road.
During the operation, 58 buildings have been sealed, while 124 structures identified between Sohan and Khanna Bridge have been demolished, according to the authority.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf has directed the relevant departments to ensure uniform enforcement of building by-laws, land-use regulations and mandatory fire safety requirements.
He has also instructed officials to maintain construction quality and transparency while accelerating work on all sections of the project.
The chairman said completion of the service road would help reduce traffic pressure on the Islamabad Expressway, save commuters’ travel time and fuel, and improve connectivity for residents of adjoining areas.
