Imaan Mazari, Hadi Chatha challenge sentences before IHC

ISLAMABAD, Nov 06 (APP):Lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha have filed appeals and applications seeking suspension of their sentences before the Islamabad High Court (IHC), challenging their convictions in a case related to the removal of security barriers during the movement of a foreign cricket team.
The appeals were filed through counsels Faisal Siddiqui, Riasat Ali Azad and Zainab Janjua. The IHC Registrar’s Office has numbered Iman Mazari’s appeal as 283/2026 and Hadi Ali Chattha’s as 282/2026.
In their appeals, the petitioners argued that the trial court had failed to meet the requirements of a fair trial. They contended that the jail trial, conducted in violation of Article 10 of the Constitution, had effectively amounted to a secret trial.
Citing various judicial precedents concerning fair trial requirements, the petitioners requested the high court to set aside the trial court’s verdict.
They also sought suspension of their sentences and release on bail pending the disposal of their appeals.
The Anti-Terrorism Court had sentenced both accused to 10 years’ imprisonment each and imposed fines in the case.
