ATC rejects bail plea of main accused in kidnapping, murder case

LAHORE, Nov 04 (APP):An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday dismissed the post-arrest bail application of the main accused, Atif Akram, in a kidnapping and murder case involving the alleged killing of a citizen over non-payment of the full ransom amount.
ATC Judge Malik Abid Hussain announced the decision, rejecting the bail plea of the accused.
According to the prosecution, Atif Akram was arrested in 2026 after remaining a proclaimed offender for 10 years. The case had remained dormant for a decade due to the non-arrest of the main accused. During this period, the complainant, who was the victim’s brother, also passed away.
Following the arrest, the victim’s widow filed an application seeking restoration of the prosecution proceedings, which the court allowed. Advocate Chaudhry Muhammad Qasim appeared on behalf of the complainant.
Police have submitted the challan against Atif Akram, while his two brothers, Bilal and Salman, are still absconding and have been declared proclaimed offenders.
The prosecution alleged that the accused kidnapped a citizen, Naeem Khan, and received Rs10 million as ransom, while the kidnappers had initially demanded Rs30 million. The victim was allegedly murdered when the kidnappers failed to receive the full ransom amount.
The case was registered at A Division Police Station, Sheikhupura, in 2015.
