ISLAMABAD, Nov 04 (APP):Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar has called for further modernisation of the passport issuance system through advanced technology, digital services and automation to improve public facilitation.
He appreciated the government’s initiatives to improve passport services and promote the use of modern technology.
During a meeting with Director General Immigration and Passports Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa at Parliament House, Syedaal Khan Nasar praised the department’s performance and institutional reforms.
However, he stressed the need to modernise the system in line with contemporary requirements.
He also met tribal elders, lawyers, civil society representatives, students and other prominent personalities.
The discussions covered public issues, national affairs and the country’s political and economic situation.
During his meeting with the DG Passports, the existing passport issuance system, departmental performance, security features and facilities for citizens came under discussion.
The deputy chairman said the government’s efforts to improve passport services and facilitate citizens were encouraging.
However, he stressed the need for further measures to improve departmental efficiency and public convenience.
He directed the authorities to expand the use of modern technology, digital systems and automation at every stage of passport issuance.
He said the process, from submitting an application to receiving a passport, should be made faster, more transparent and accessible.
He added that citizens should not face unnecessary delays, long waiting periods or administrative difficulties. An effective mechanism should also be introduced to resolve public complaints promptly.
Syedaal Khan Nasar said the effective use of technology and better administrative measures could strengthen public confidence in the department.
While appreciating the department’s overall performance, he called for continued reforms in line with international standards, technological developments and changing security requirements.
The meeting also discussed plans to introduce passport issuance facilities through NADRA in the near future. Other matters included strengthening passport security and improving Pakistan’s international passport ranking.
The DG Passports informed the deputy chairman that the number of official (blue) passports had been reduced from 74,000 to 49,000 in line with administrative discipline and international requirements.
Meanwhile, during meetings with other delegations, Syedaal Khan Nasar said the government was taking steps to promote economic growth, control inflation and provide relief to the public.
He cited the recent reduction in petroleum product prices as one such measure.
He expressed hope that the relief would also lead to lower prices of other essential commodities.
