SAU youth trained to tackle climate change, disaster risks under TAYAR initiative

HYDERABAD, Nov 04 (APP):Emphasizing the need to prepare young people for growing climate and disaster-related challenges, Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam has organized a training workshop under the TAYAR initiative, encouraging students to turn environmental awareness into practical action and strengthen community resilience.
According to the SAU spokesperson on Wednesday, the workshop was organized by the University’s Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club at the Faculty of Crop Protection under the program titled Training Adolescents and Youth for Action and Resilience (TAYAR). Students from various faculties actively participated in the sessions, which focused on climate change, disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and community resilience.
Addressing the participants, Dean Faculty of Crop Protection Professor Dr. Abdul Mubeen Lodhi described climate change as a major global challenge that demands urgent, coordinated and collective efforts. He identified deforestation and industrial emissions as main contributors to environmental degradation and stressed the need for tree plantation, protection of natural resources and the adoption of environmentally responsible practices.
He said every citizen had a responsibility to contribute towards mitigating the impacts of climate change. He emphasized that planting trees alone was not enough, as their proper and sustained care was equally essential to ensure their survival and growth. He urged young people to translate environmental awareness into meaningful action and play an active role in protecting their communities.
GYM Focal Person Dr. Muhammad Javed Shaikh along with committee members Dr. Abdul Waheed Solangi and Dr. Mehar Ul Nissa Rais, delivered lectures on climate change, disaster preparedness and youth participation in community-based initiatives. They highlighted the importance of engaging young people in local efforts to reduce disaster risks and build safer, more resilient communities.
Held under the slogan “Hum Hain TAYAR” (We Are Ready), the workshop underscored the importance of preparedness, collective responsibility and meaningful youth engagement in addressing climate change and disaster-related challenges.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Professor Dr. Abdul Mubeen Lodhi distributed certificates among the participants.
