GILGIT, Nov 04 (APP):The British Council in partnership with the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has organized a roundtable conference in Gilgit to promote digital employment opportunities and improve graduate employability, particularly among women and young people in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The event held at Serena Hotel Gilgit the other day under the European Union-funded Team Europe TVET Sector Support Programme, brought together representatives from the government, academia, IT industry and development partners to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and employers.
The roundtable focused on industry linkages, digital skills development and emerging employment opportunities, with particular emphasis on aligning technical and vocational training with the requirements of the IT industry.
The panel discussion featured Sher Ali, Director, GB Technical Education and Skills Department; Muhammad Zohaib Khan, Chair of Special Initiatives at P@SHA; Prof. Dr Abdul Razaq, Acting Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU); Naeem Sardar, Vice Chairman GBSHA and Co-founder of Uconnect Technologies; and Zameer Abbas, Secretary IT, Gilgit-Baltistan.
The participants discussed ways to bridge the gap between skills training and industry demands, enhance employment prospects for graduates and create more opportunities for women in the digital economy.
The initiative aims to promote stronger partnerships between public institutions, training providers and the private sector to ensure that young people acquire market-relevant skills and access sustainable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The TVET Sector Support Programme is a multi-year initiative funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the British Council and GIZ. It supports Pakistan’s efforts to improve the quality, relevance and inclusivity of technical and vocational education and training, particularly in digital and high-growth sectors.
