Japan confers prestigious Order of the Rising Sun on former Pakistani envoy Farukh Amil

ISLAMABAD, Nov 03 (APP): The Government of Japan on Monday announced the 2026 Fall Conferment of Decoration for Farukh Akhter Amil, former Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan.
According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad, former Ambassador Farukh Amil has been decorated with “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” in recognition of his outstanding contributions towards strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Pakistan.
Amil served as Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan from 2013 to 2017 and played a pivotal role in enhancing Japan-Pakistan relations in many fields, including cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
During his tenure, in August 2015, he invited Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado to the calligraphy exhibition held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Japan, symbolically strengthening cultural ties with the Imperial Family.
He also delivered lectures at more than 50 universities across Japan and engaged in direct dialogue with students and researchers, greatly promoting mutual understanding among the younger generations who will shape the future of both countries.
The press release noted that in addition to his distinguished diplomatic activities, he made significant contributions to the Japanese people. Shortly after his arrival in Japan, he visited Fukushima Prefecture, devastated by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, demonstrating his commitment to standing with those affected by the disaster.
This visit took place even before the presentation of his credentials, and the fact that a foreign ambassador who had recently taken up his post personally traveled to the affected area elicited deep gratitude from local residents, who described it as “unforgettable support.”
Even after completing his term, Amil continued to work tirelessly to promote understanding of Japan. In February 2025, he co-hosted a photo exhibition titled “Beautiful Japan through the Eyes of an Ambassador” with the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, which displayed photographs he had taken in Japan during his tenure. The exhibition was covered by 14 major newspapers in Pakistan.
