RAWALPINDI, Oct 23 (APP):Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering commitment to supporting national public health initiatives, emphasizing that student engagement remains vital to achieving a polio-free Pakistan.
In her message on the eve of World Polio Day, Dr. Bushra Mirza said that a healthy population forms the fundamental foundations of national progress and economic development. She highlighted that university students represent the dynamic core of the country’s youth, playing a pivotal role as health advocates in driving community awareness and ensuring positive public response toward vaccination campaigns across the country.
The vice chancellor said that FJWU regularly organizes health-focused seminars, workshops, capacity-building lectures and awareness walks to educate students on preventive healthcare and civic responsibility.
She affirmed that the university will continue to collaborate closely with public sector health institutions and international partners in future campaigns to support sustainable health outcomes.
She highlighted FJWU’s proactive public health advocacy, under which the university’s Character Building Society (CBS) and Health & Wellbeing Society (HWS) recently organized comprehensive World Polio Day activities on campus in collaboration with the District Health Authority Rawalpindi, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Punjab. The campus advocacy initiatives featured interactive student sessions, awareness walks, and child-focused educational activities at the Early Childhood Care (ECC) Daycare Centre, designed to promote Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
Dr. Bushra emphasized that FJWU will sustain its institutional partnerships with provincial health authorities and international agencies to advance polio eradication efforts and build a healthier future for the nation.
