Deputy Director Mr. Adnan Akram Bajwa delivered a presentation on effective media management, explaining how officials could prepare for press briefings, respond to challenging questions, and communicate accurate information to journalists and the public.
He highlighted the importance of remaining calm under pressure, keeping discussions focused on the main issue and providing clear, detailed and well-reasoned answers.
The participants were also advised to maintain friendly and professional relations with journalists and avoid unnecessary arguments during media interactions.
Videos of press conferences by the Inspector General of Punjab Police and other senior officers were also shown to demonstrate how officials respond to questions, address public concerns and build public confidence through effective communication.
A mock press conference exercise was conducted in three rounds, allowing officers from different institutions to practise responding to journalists in challenging situations.
During one exercise, participants were given a fictional case involving allegations against police personnel and growing public criticism. The officers were asked to explain the department’s position, respond to difficult questions and remain focused on the facts.
Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) crime and parliamentary reporter Roy Zia ur Rehman, court reporter Usman Zia, senior Urdu reporter Tabassum Gul and journalist Urooj Maryam facilitated the exercise by asking challenging questions and creating a realistic press conference environment.
Observers reviewed the performance of officers after each round, highlighting their strengths and areas where improvement was needed. The participants were also guided on how to give clear answers, remain confident, and communicate effectively under pressure.
The workshop aimed to improve the communication skills of officers, strengthen their professional relations with journalists and promote the responsible sharing of information with the public.
