DRAP, WHO, paediatricians join hands to improve medicine safety

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19 (APP):The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pakistan Pediatric Association (PPA) have agreed to strengthen collaboration on medicine safety awareness.
They also decided to improve the reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) in Pakistan.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Dr. Akhtar Abbas Khan, Director Pharmacy Services at DRAP, and Asadullah, Technical Officer at WHO Pakistan, with Prof. Dr. Gen. Salman Ali, PPA President; Dr. Waseem Jamalvi, PPA General Secretary; and Prof. Dr. Dure Samin Akram on the sidelines of the 28th Biennial International Pediatric Conference.
The discussions focused on sensitizing paediatric consultants to the importance of reporting suspected adverse drug reactions and adverse events following immunization to strengthen medicine safety monitoring.
The participants agreed that the PPA would collaborate with DRAP to promote medicine safety communication and encourage timely reporting of ADRs and AEFIs across the country.
The collaboration aims to enhance awareness among healthcare professionals, strengthen pharmacovigilance practices and support efforts to improve patient safety through more effective monitoring and reporting of medicine-related risks.
