ISLAMABAD, Oct 14 (APP): Islamabad Medical and Dental College (IMDC), in collaboration with Dr Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital (ANTH), screened more than 200 people for Hepatitis C during a community outreach camp in Bhara Kahu.
The screening camp was organized by the Department of Community Medicine and Family Medicine at IMDC at The Smart School, Bhara Kahu Campus, as part of the Prime Minister’s National Hepatitis C Elimination Programme.
The initiative aimed to promote early detection, improve public awareness and facilitate timely medical guidance for people potentially affected by the viral infection.
The camp was led by the Hepatitis C Community Outreach Core Team, comprising Dr Mian Muhammad Saad Irfan and Abdul Ghaffar Mastoi, with the support of trained phlebotomists.
The two individuals who tested reactive were identified for further medical guidance and evaluation to determine the appropriate course of care.
The activity also provided practical learning opportunities for fourth-year MBBS students from IMDC’s Department of Community Medicine, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in community-based screening and preventive healthcare.
The organizers said such outreach initiatives played an important role in bringing essential health services closer to communities, encouraging early screening and supporting national efforts to eliminate Hepatitis C.
