Pakistan launches plan to reduce anaemia among women, girls
The initiative aims to strengthen efforts to prevent and control anaemia among adolescent girls and women through coordinated public health interventions and improved access to appropriate healthcare services.
The plan aligns with the World Health Assembly’s global target of achieving a 50 percent reduction in anaemia among women of reproductive age by 2030, highlighting the need for sustained action to address this major public health challenge.
Anaemia, a condition characterized by a lower-than-normal level of haemoglobin in the blood, can cause fatigue, weakness and reduced physical capacity. It can also have serious consequences for maternal health and overall well-being.
The initiative underscores the importance of collaboration among government institutions, international health organizations and other stakeholders to strengthen prevention, early identification and management of anaemia.
The WHO and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to protect the health of adolescent girls and women and reduce the burden of anaemia through coordinated action.
