SNGPL disconnects 109 gas meters, inspects 1,730 locations

MULTAN, Oct 13 (APP):The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) Control Task Force has intensified its ongoing crackdown against gas theft, illegal consumption, and technical violations across the city, resulting in the disconnection of 109 gas meters following extensive inspections at 1,730 locations.
According to cumulative figures released from recent and weekly operations, enforcement teams took stern action against consumers found violating gas supply regulations.
The operations revealed widespread irregularities, notably the unauthorized use of gas compressors. A total of 71 meters were severed due to compressor usage—comprising 54 from previous operations and 17 from recent raids. Additionally, illegal gas extensions were dismantled at nine locations.
Further breakdown of the enforcement action shows that 15 meters were disconnected for being installed in reverse, nine for unauthorized commercial use, and four for illegal shifting. Furthermore, eight meters were disconnected upon consumers’ direct requests, one was removed due to excessive distance from the service connection, and a separate case involving direct gas consumption was successfully detected.
SNGPL officials stated that the ongoing campaign aims to curb rampant gas theft, restore system pressures, promptly address public complaints, and guarantee an uninterrupted and safe gas supply to legitimate consumers.
Emphasizing public safety as the top priority, the General Manager of SNGPL urged consumers to remain vigilant and check for the distinct smell of gas prior to operating any gas appliances. In the event of a suspected gas leak, citizens were strongly advised to immediately open all doors and windows while strictly avoiding the operation of electrical switches or gas-powered appliances.
