OGDC targets 68% rise in oil output by FY31

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP):Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has set a five year target to increase crude oil production by 68% to 60,384 barrels per day and natural gas sales by 46% to 1,167 million standard cubic feet per day by FY2030-31, aiming to strengthen domestic energy supplies through 140 development wells, 200 field interventions, brownfield revitalisation, pressure maintenance measures and major gas compression projects.
According to official documents available with Wealth Pakistan, the company plans to raise crude oil production from 36,013 barrels per day in FY2025-26 to 60,384 barrels per day by FY2030-31, while natural gas sales are projected to increase from 797 MMscfd to 1,167 MMscfd over the same period.
The expansion strategy includes 19 brownfield revitalisation initiatives, 10 greenfield development and old-discovery projects, 12 pressure-maintenance and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects, and the expansion of seven existing production plants.
Under its production roadmap, crude oil output is projected to rise to 41,076 barrels per day in FY2026-27 and 51,239 barrels per day in FY2027-28, reaching 57,028 barrels per day in FY2028-29. Production is expected to climb further to 59,747 barrels per day in FY2029-30 before reaching the five-year target.
Natural gas sales are projected at 764 MMscfd in FY2026-27, rising to 935 MMscfd in FY2027-28 and 1,125 MMscfd in FY2028-29. The company expects sales to reach 1,154 MMscfd in FY2029-30 and 1,167 MMscfd in FY2030-31.
The plan also identifies five major development and compression projects aimed at sustaining and increasing production, with two already commissioned and three scheduled for completion between November 2026 and March 2028.
These projects include Jhal Magsi, Dakhni front-end compression, Uch compression, KPD-TAY compression and Sinjhoro Development Phase-II.
The Jhal Magsi project was commissioned in August 2025, with associated production listed at 14 MMscfd of natural gas and 45 barrels of crude oil per day.
The Dakhni front-end compression project was commissioned in February 2026. Its associated production figures include 100 barrels of oil per day, five MMscfd of natural gas and 30 metric tonnes of sulphur daily.
The Uch compression project is expected to be completed in November 2026 and is considered essential for maintaining the field’s production plateau.
The KPD-TAY compression project is scheduled for completion in December 2026, with associated production of 750 barrels of condensate per day, 50 MMscfd of natural gas and 130 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) daily.
Sinjhoro Development Phase-II is expected to be completed in March 2028, with planned associated production of 27 MMscfd of natural gas and 30 tonnes of LPG per day.
The documents also highlight OGDC’s significant role in Pakistan’s exploration and production sector. The company accounts for approximately 55% of the country’s crude oil production, 28% of natural gas production and 35% of LPG output.
OGDC holds 58% of Pakistan’s oil reserves and 28% of its natural gas reserves. Its exploration acreage covers approximately 31% of the country’s total area under exploration, while it contributes 53% of two-dimensional and 34% of three-dimensional seismic acquisition.
The company has 112 production leases, including 82 operated and 30 non-operated interests.
Its current production stands at approximately 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 815 MMscfd of natural gas and 780 metric tonnes of LPG daily. OGDC also reported net sales revenue of approximately $1.6 billion for FY2025-26.
