ISLAMABAD, Oct 09 (APP): Pakistan all-rounder Maaz Sadaqat has attributed his maiden T20 International half-century to his natural attacking approach and the confidence shown in him by the team management, following the hosts’ four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the opening match of the three-game series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Maaz played a decisive role in Pakistan’s successful pursuit of the 183-run target, scoring a brisk 50 off 29 deliveries, including four boundaries and three sixes. He shared a crucial 92-run second-wicket partnership with captain Sahibzada Farhan, who led the chase with an impressive 89 off 53 balls, as Pakistan reached the target with seven balls to spare.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Maaz expressed delight at both the team’s victory and his personal achievement, describing his first half-century in T20 internationals as a memorable milestone. He said the win was particularly satisfying and expressed his gratitude for being able to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
The left-handed batter said he intended to maintain the same positive approach in the remaining matches, emphasizing the importance of consistency and confidence in his natural style of play. He noted that modern cricket demanded an attacking mindset, particularly during the powerplay, and said he was following the guidance provided by the coaching staff.
Maaz explained that his aggressive batting was a natural part of his game and that the management’s trust had encouraged him to play with freedom at the international level. He said he intended to continue backing his instincts while adhering to the team’s strategy, adding that the approach had begun to produce encouraging results.
The all-rounder also demonstrated his willingness to adapt to the team’s requirements, saying he was prepared to bat at any position whenever needed. His flexibility, combined with his attacking intent, could provide Pakistan with additional options as the series progresses.
Commenting on Pakistan’s batting strength, Maaz praised middle-order batters Hasan Nawaz and Abdul Samad, noting that their presence had further strengthened the team’s batting resources. He suggested that the depth available in the lineup offered Pakistan greater flexibility and confidence in different match situations.
Pakistan now lead the three-match T20 International series 1-0 after their opening victory over Sri Lanka. The second match will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 11, followed by the third and final encounter on October 13, with Maaz expected to build on his promising performance as the hosts look to secure the series.
