Senator Amir Chishti has raised Pakistan’s flag high at the global parliamentary stage by being elected as a member of the IPU Committee on Health securing 64 votes– the highest number of votes secured by any candidate in this 153rd IPU Assembly.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 09 (APP): Senator Amir Chishti has raised Pakistan’s flag high at the global parliamentary stage by being elected as a member of the IPU Committee on Health securing 64 votes– the highest number of votes secured by any candidate in this 153rd IPU Assembly.
Senator Chishti, who had applied for membership of the Committee on Health, contested the election held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), Arusha, Tanzania. Securing the top position with 64 votes, his election is being hailed as a major achievement for Pakistan.
In a gracious gesture, the newly elected President of the IPU and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, H.E. Milton Dick, personally congratulated Senator Chishti on his impressive victory.
Chairman Senate of Pakistan and Head of the Pakistani Delegation, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan also extended heartfelt congratulations to Senator Amir Chishti, terming his success a proud moment for the Parliament of Pakistan and recognition of Pakistan’s constructive role in global parliamentary diplomacy.
The IPU Committee on Health is a key body mandated to address global health challenges, health security, universal health coverage and strengthening of health systems from a parliamentary perspective.
