ISLAMABAD, Oct 09 (APP):A trade delegation of the Pakistan–Romania Business Council (PRBC), led by Atif Farooqi, Honorary Consul Designate of Romania in Sindh, held meetings in Constanta to promote trade, investment and institutional cooperation between Pakistan and Romania.
The delegation in Constanta Romania, discussed the possibility of a future twinning agreement between the port cities of Constanta and Karachi, said a PRBC release received here.
The delegation participated in a Romania–Pakistan business-to-business meeting hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture of Constanta.
The event brought together members of the Pakistani delegation, local government officials, business representatives and institutions to explore new areas of cooperation.
Among those attending the meeting were Deputy Mayor of Constana Adriana Arghirescu, PRBC Chairman Sohail Shamim Firpo, Chamber General Manager Ruxandra Serescu, and members of the local business community.
Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in maritime transport, logistics, agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, technology, education, tourism and investment. Participants reviewed ways to connect Romanian and Pakistani companies, encourage direct business contacts and identify sectors where both countries could work together.
A key topic was strengthening links between Constana and Karachi, two major port cities that connect European and South Asian markets. Participants referred to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2026 between the Port of Constanta and Karachi Port Trust and expressed interest in further institutional cooperation that could eventually lead to a city twinning agreement.
Speakers noted that such a partnership could support cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education, cultural activities and local government engagement.
Addressing the meeting, Atif Farooqi thanked Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, for supporting the Pakistani business mission with the assistance of Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Romania in Islamabad. He also thanked Ruxandra Serescu and the Chamber of Commerce for arranging the meeting and facilitating contacts with local businesses and institutions.
The discussions concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain direct communication, identify business opportunities and encourage future exchanges between companies and institutions.
Participants said the visit reflects ongoing efforts to convert strong diplomatic relations between Romania and Pakistan into practical economic cooperation and long-term business partnerships.
