Muqam pays tribute to 2005 earthquake victims

ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (APP):Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan on October 8, 2005 and lauded the nation’s resilience, unity and spirit of sacrifice.
In a statement issued here, the minister said the earthquake was a tragic day in the country’s history, claiming thousands of lives and leaving millions homeless.
He said the solidarity, patience and steadfastness demonstrated by the nation in the aftermath of the disaster remained a shining chapter in national history.
Recalling his visits to the affected areas, Amir Muqam said he had personally spent several days in Muzaffarabad, Balakot and Bagh, visited the injured and affected families, and coordinated relief efforts with national and international organizations.
He paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces, volunteers, civil society and international organizations for their exemplary role in relief and rescue operations.
The minister also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families of the earthquake victims and stressed the need to learn from the tragedy and strengthen preparedness to deal with natural disasters in the future.
He said the day reminded the nation that even the greatest challenges could be overcome through unity and collective resolve.
