ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (APP):United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the Ministry of Interior and met Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
The meeting focused on the global and regional situation as well as matters related to United Nations peace missions.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan is fighting the global war against terrorism and continues to face security challenges. He stated that 25 terrorist organizations are currently operating in Afghanistan and pose a serious threat to peace around the world.
Mohsin Naqvi said the international community needs to work together to address this threat. He emphasized that cooperation among countries is necessary to counter terrorism and maintain peace and stability.
The Interior Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to United Nations peacekeeping missions and said the country will continue to play its role in these operations. He noted that Pakistani police officers and personnel are also serving in the United Nations Police and contributing to international peace efforts.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan has sacrificed 181 lives while participating in UN peace missions, reflecting the country’s contribution to maintaining peace in different parts of the world.
Speaking on the occasion, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres acknowledged Pakistan’s role in UN peacekeeping operations. He said Pakistan’s participation in peace missions has always been significant and recognized the country’s contribution to international peace and security.
Guterres also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for global peace and said the country has played an important role in supporting peace initiatives under the United Nations framework.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi thanked the UN Secretary-General for the support and assistance provided by the United Nations to Pakistan during natural disasters.
Special Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary Interior and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
