Ombudsman Punjab hosts global gathering to strengthen accountability, citizens’ rights

LAHORE, Oct 07 (APP): The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab on Wednesday hosted the opening ceremony of an international conference being held to mark 30 years of its public service and provide a global platform for discussion on accountability, good governance and citizens’ rights.
According to a spokesperson, the three-day conference, being held at a local hotel, will formally commence on Thursday, October 8, under the theme “Role of Ombudsman Institutions in Strengthening Accountability, Governance, and Citizens’ Rights.”
Ombudsman leaders, representatives of international institutions and delegates from different parts of the world are participating in the conference to exchange experiences and discuss the evolving role of independent oversight institutions in promoting accountable governance and protecting citizens’ rights.
Delegates from Papua New Guinea, South Africa, West Cameroon, Zambia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Mauritius, Cameroon’s North-West Region, Nigeria, Switzerland, Italy, Ukraine, Andorra, Türkiye, Kyrgyz Republic, Macao, Bahrain, Timor-Leste and the Philippines are participating in the event.
In her opening remarks, Ombudsman Punjab Ayesha Hamid welcomed the international delegates and guests and acknowledged the efforts of the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab team in organising the conference.
Held under the banner “A Milestone. A Shared Journey. A Global Gathering,” the conference marks three decades of the Ombudsman Punjab’s institutional journey and highlights its growing engagement with the international ombudsman community.
The conference will provide an opportunity for participating institutions to share best practices, exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation in addressing maladministration, promoting accountable governance and ensuring effective protection of citizens’ rights.
The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab is an independent institution mandated to provide citizens with a forum for redress against maladministration and promote accountability, transparency and good governance in public institutions.
