The session was led by Dr Shahbaz Tariq, Head of Research and Development at FGP, who shared key insights from the Fundraising 360 Workshop of the Atlas Network Academy, recently held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The session was attended by faculty members from the Faculties of Management Sciences and Social Sciences, as well as university students.
Dr Tariq said effective fundraising required organisations to articulate a clear purpose and value proposition, identify appropriate partners, understand their audiences, build credibility and trust, and develop relationships beyond individual funding opportunities.
He highlighted five practical areas for effective fundraising: strengthening the value proposition, sharpening organisational messaging, identifying and qualifying prospective donors, preparing for engagement by understanding donors and target audiences, and maintaining consistent communication and donor stewardship.
He stressed that evidence of results was also essential for developing sustainable partnerships.
The session also linked fundraising with proposal development, institutional positioning, donor engagement, partnership building and organisational sustainability. Participants were introduced to practical approaches for aligning organisational objectives with indicators, deliverables and evidence.
“Fundraising is not about asking for money; it is about building trust around a clear purpose,” Dr Tariq said.
