ISLAMABAD, Oct 06 (APP):The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), in collaboration with Dolphin Communications, staged a special theatrical production “Amir Khusro” on Tuesday, paying tribute to the life, literary contributions, spiritual thought and musical legacy of the legendary Sufi poet, musician and thinker Hazrat Amir Khusro (RA).
The production, which attracted a large audience of art, literature, music and Sufism enthusiasts, presented the multifaceted personality of Amir Khusro (RA) and highlighted his significant contribution to the shared cultural heritage of the subcontinent.
Rather than merely portraying a historical figure, the play explored different dimensions of Amir Khusro’s personality, including his poetry, Sufi thought, spiritual association with Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (RA), contribution to music and association with the qawwali tradition.
Amir Khusro (RA) holds a distinctive place in the cultural history of the subcontinent. A renowned Persian poet, prominent representative of Hindavi literature, Sufi, musician, historian and court scholar, he represented a unique synthesis of Persian and Indian cultural traditions.
The production particularly highlighted the spiritual bond between Amir Khusro (RA) and Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (RA), portraying their relationship as an enduring example of love, devotion and the bond between a spiritual guide and disciple in the Sufi tradition.
Through dialogues, characters and musical performances, the play also depicted Amir Khusro’s influence on the literary, linguistic and cultural traditions of the subcontinent.
Kaleem Khan portrayed Amir Khusro, while Shahid Mughal played the role of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Neelam Arshad performed as the narrator, while other artists portrayed various historical, literary and cultural characters.
Traditional music, tabla, sarangi and Sufi melodies added depth to the performance, creating an evocative atmosphere that connected the audience with the cultural and spiritual world of Amir Khusro (RA).
Written by Arshad Chehal and directed by Muhammad Waqar Azeem, the production was presented under the supervision of Executive Director and Producer Asma Ismail Butt.
The audience warmly appreciated the performances, dialogues, music and portrayal of different aspects of Amir Khusro’s life and legacy.
The production also highlighted the role of theatre in preserving and promoting the region’s rich literary, Sufi and cultural heritage and in introducing younger generations to the contributions of its eminent poets, musicians and thinkers.
PNCA continues to promote programmes aimed at highlighting the country’s rich artistic and cultural heritage and providing audiences, particularly younger generations, opportunities to connect with the region’s diverse literary, musical and cultural traditions.
