ISLAMABAD, Oct 06 (APP):The indictment of Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha was deferred on Tuesday after they could not be produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) due to a power outage at Adiala Jail.
ATC Islamabad Judge Tahir Abbas Supra heard the case registered against the couple for allegedly breaking a route and inciting people during the arrival of an international cricket team.
Prosecutor Raja Naveed and junior counsels representing the accused appeared before the court. The junior counsel requested the court to provide copies of the charge sheet and fix another date, saying the main counsels were appearing before the Islamabad High Court.
The judge observed that copies of the charge sheet had already been provided and that the court was scheduled to frame charges against the accused.
The counsel also submitted that they were not being allowed access to their clients. The judge observed that the vakalatnamas had already been signed and said the court could not allow the proceedings to be managed according to the convenience of the parties.
The court then adjourned the proceedings until 11:30 a.m. for the appearance of the main counsels and framing of charges.
However, the accused could not be produced through video link due to a power outage at Adiala Jail, resulting in further postponement of the indictment.
The court directed jail authorities to ensure the accused were produced through video link at the next hearing, warning that failure to do so would lead to contempt of court proceedings against the jail officials.
The court also directed the jail authorities to ensure that Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha were allowed to meet their lawyers.
The court adjourned the hearing until Wednesday, when charges are expected to be framed against the two accused.
A case against Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha was registered at Aabpara Police Station, Islamabad.
