Agriculture backbone of country’s economy: Governor

KARACHI, Oct 06 (APP): The Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, has said that agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and that a strong farming community is essential for a strong national economy.
He emphasized that strengthening the agricultural sector is a national necessity for food security, rural prosperity and sustainable economic development.
He expressed these views while addressing the signing ceremony of a partnership between United Bank Limited (UBL) and Universal Agri Tractor Company (UATC) at Governor House.
Hashmi highlighted that the partnership between UBL and UATC is an important step towards a brighter future for farmers and the rural economy.
He noted that modern agricultural machinery combined with accessible financing can play a significant role in empowering farmers.
He stated that agricultural mechanization would help increase productivity, reduce production costs and enable timely cultivation and harvesting.
Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi observed that combining UBL’s expertise in agricultural financing with UATC’s experience in tractor manufacturing would prove beneficial for farmers. He added that farmers would directly benefit from tractors financed through markup subsidy programmes.
The Governor stressed that modern technology and accessible financing must be made available to the maximum number of farmers.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between financial institutions and the industrial sector to further develop Pakistan’s agricultural economy.
He maintained that coordinated efforts by the government, financial institutions and industry could create greater opportunities for farmers, enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
