KARACHI, Oct 06 (APP):Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the progress on the improvement, beautification, encroachment removal and development projects along Shahrah-e-Faisal and its adjoining service roads held  at his office.
The Commissioner said Shahrah-e-Faisal is one of Karachi’s major arteries and directed all relevant departments to play their role in making the road more attractive and improving its overall condition.
Deputy Commissioner East Nasrullah Abbasi, Assistant Commissioners Rabia Syed, Iqra Jannat and Javeria Ashraf, municipal commissioners of KMC and the relevant town municipal administrations, and the KDA Chief Engineer attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed, through photographs and videos, various ongoing civic and development works, including road patchwork, cleanliness, improvement of footpaths and green belts, kerb-stone painting, road and surrounding beautification, and the removal of encroachments.
On the Commissioner’s directives, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Iqra Jannat, Assistant Commissioner Ferozabad Javeria Ashraf and Assistant Commissioner Nazimabad Rabia Syed had surveyed different sections of Shahrah-e-Faisal to identify areas requiring repair, cleaning, restoration and beautification.
The three officers conducted surveys of their respective sections and prepared detailed lists of required works on Shahrah-e-Faisal and both sides of its adjoining service roads, supported by photographs and videos. The reports were subsequently submitted to the Commissioner.
Following the survey, the Commissioner directed the concerned town administrations and KMC to complete the identified works under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioners.
During the meeting, the Commissioner reviewed the progress of the works in detail with officials of the relevant departments. Municipal commissioners briefed the meeting through before-and-after photographs and videos on the works completed at various locations.
The meeting was informed that encroachments and debris had been removed from Baloch Colony Bridge and the Shahrah-e-Faisal flyovers. Photographs showing the removal of debris and unnecessary Jersey barriers from beneath Baloch Colony Bridge were also presented.
According to the municipal commissioner, Iqra Ahmed work on footpaths, patchwork, painting and removal of encroachments around Baloch Colony and Fozia Wahab flyovers had been completed.
To improve traffic flow beneath Fozia Wahab Bridge, construction of a modern U-turn and wide cuts has also been completed and the area has been asphalted.
The meeting also reviewed the problem of haphazard parking by employees of offices located in high-rise buildings along both sides of the service roads. It was decided to establish organised parking on the green belt, particularly in the commercial stretch between Kawish Crown and Rumi Mosque, to regulate parking.
A suitable area on the green belt was identified during the meeting. The Assistant Commissioners were directed, with the assistance of KMC, to develop  parking spaces with pavers to facilitate commercial offices and help ease traffic congestion.
The meeting also decided to undertake plantation and landscaping work to enhance greenery and beautify the area. It was further decided to install  hedges along Shahrah-e-Faisal to conceal unsightly cables and exposed areas and improve the visual appearance of the road.
The meeting was informed that the installation of American grass and natural greenery near Fozia Wahab Bridge and Mansion Banquet had been completed, while colouring and tile work along boundary edges was in progress.
It was decided that K-Electric, KMC and private cable operators would jointly undertake immediate under-grounding or removal of hanging and inactive cables along loop Shahrah-e-Faisal.
