Restoration, beautification work underway at historic Soldier Bazaar

KARACHI, Oct 06 (APP):Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is carrying out restoration and beautification work at the historic Soldier Bazaar.
The area had been severely affected for a long time due to encroachments and neglect, resulting in a deteriorated condition. However, the situation is now undergoing a significant transformation.
He expressed these views while inspecting the ongoing restoration and beautification work at historic Soldier Bazaar. Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffer, Senior Director KMC Estate Sumaira Hussain and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the KMC was taking measures to restore Soldier Bazaar with the objective of bringing this historically and commercially important area back to a better condition.
He said that encroachments and deterioration had adversely affected the original character of the market; however, the situation was gradually improving following the commencement of restoration work.
According to the Mayor Karachi, municipal-level initiatives for the improvement of urban areas, provision of basic civic facilities and restoration of historic places would continue. The restoration of Soldier Bazaar was part of these efforts and was expected to provide a better environment for residents, shopkeepers and citizens.
He said that development and rehabilitation projects were underway in various parts of Karachi and that municipal institutions would fulfil their responsibilities wherever required.
The Mayor Karachi further said that the KMC was also continuing road rehabilitation work across the city to maintain smooth traffic flow and facilitate citizens in their daily commute.
He said that roads affected by various development and other works, particularly important arteries of the city, were being reconstructed and rehabilitated so that traffic flow could remain uninterrupted and citizens would not face difficulties in travelling.
The Mayor said that road rehabilitation work was also underway in the areas surrounding the National Stadium and National Coaching Centre. Relevant KMC teams were engaged in the repair and reconstruction of damaged sections
so that the roads could be restored to a better condition.
He said that the rehabilitation of major roads and improvement of infrastructure were among the priorities of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. Road construction and repair works were being carried out while keeping the convenience of citizens and smooth traffic flow in view.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab also said that construction and rehabilitation work on internal roads of Orangi Town was underway. The objective was to provide better travelling facilities to citizens and improve the basic infrastructure of the area.
He said that development work was continuing in different parts of the city, and the rehabilitation of internal streets and roads in Orangi Town was also part of these efforts.
According to the Mayor Karachi, the presence and supervision of local representatives were being given importance in municipal development projects so that the pace and quality of development work could be monitored and better civic facilities could be ensured for citizens.
He said that work on public-facility projects would continue and that measures were being taken to improve basic urban infrastructure, including roads, in different areas of Karachi.
