PFA seals shopping mall, spice unit over food safety violations

LAHORE, Oct 05 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a renowned shopping mall and a spice manufacturing unit during an operation in Gulberg and adjoining areas, seizing 1,100 kilogrammes of prepared spices and machinery and destroying fungus-infested red chilli.
The operation was conducted on the directions of PFA Director General Mansoor Ahmad.
The DG said unapproved imported food items were found at a well-known departmental store, while the management failed to produce the required record and necessary documents. He said the spice unit was also found lacking in cleanliness and hygiene arrangements, while product registration and labels had not been approved. The medical and training certificates of employees were also found incomplete.
DG Mansoor Ahmad said inspections of small and large food points across Punjab were continuing on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He added that adulteration and negligence in food safety would not be tolerated.
