KARACHI, Oct 05 (APP):The Department of Education of the University of Karachi held an awareness walk to mark World Teachers’ Day on Monday, with enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students from the Department of Education and various other departments of the university.
The walk commenced from the Administration Block and proceeded to Azadi Chowk and concluded back at the admin building.
The walk aimed to pay tribute to teachers’ intellectual, training, and moral contributions while highlighting their pivotal role in society’s development and progress.
During the walk, faculty members from the Departments of Education, Special Education, Mathematics, Mass Communication, and other disciplines addressed the participants.
They emphasized that a teacher is not merely a transmitter of knowledge but plays a fundamental role in shaping students’ personalities, building their character, and preparing them for the future.
The speakers also underscored the importance of respecting teachers, recognizing their status and position, and fostering a positive, respectful relationship between teachers and students within educational institutions.
The in-charge of the KU Department of Education, Dr Aziz un Nisa, stated that the foundation of a strong, enlightened, and progressive society rests upon capable, principled, and dedicated teachers.
She noted that teachers do not merely impart bookish knowledge but also instill in the younger generation the ability to think, question, solve problems, and become responsible citizens of society.
She urged students to respect their teachers and to apply the knowledge and training they receive for the betterment and welfare of society.
Student Advisor of the KU Department of Education, Dr Maroof bin Rauf, remarked that teachers are the architects of a nation’s future, and their words, attitudes, and training leave lasting impressions on generations.
He stressed that in the present era, the role of teachers has become even broader and more significant. Therefore, a successful teacher must possess not only academic competence but also technological skills, critical thinking, moral training, and an understanding of students’ psychological needs.
He advised students to value the hard work and guidance of their teachers and to view education not merely as a means of personal success but as a tool for serving society.
On this occasion, students also paid tribute to the services of teachers and expressed their thoughts regarding respect for them. They carried special banners inscribed with messages highlighting the dignity of teachers, their status, and their contributions to society.
The active participation of teachers and students made the walk a purposeful and memorable activity. At the conclusion of the event, it was resolved that the Department of Education will continue to organize such positive and meaningful activities in the future to promote respect for teachers, strengthen educational values, ensure the constructive training of students, and uphold the standards of quality education.
