ATC unhappy over IO’s absence in bail pleas of Imaan Mazari, Hadi Ali Chatha

ISLAMABAD, Oct 05 (APP):An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday expressed severe annoyance over the absence of the investigation officer in bail pleas of arrested lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha in a terrorism and Section 144 case related to a protest, and adjourned the hearing, saying it would pass an order regarding the IO.
Judge Abusl Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the post-arrest bail applications. Over the IO’s non-appearance, the court expressed severe annoyance, summoned the DSP in person and took a break in the hearing.
When the hearing resumed, DSP Legal appeared before the court. The DSP said that according to his information, the IO was out of the city and prayed for some time.
The court said that there is nothing on record. I will send both you and the SP to jail for six months. You people have created a nuisance. Bring me evidence otherwise I will send you to jail for six months right now. The court gave the DSP some time and took a break in the hearing.
When the hearing resumed, DSP Legal presented a WhatsApp printout which was rejected by the court. The judge called for handcuffs in the courtroom and told the security in-charge, “Stand here. When I give the order, you must not let him leave — arrest him. Tell the gate staff that this DSP must not go out.”
During the hearing, DSP Legal Naeem Yousuf submitted a report stating that the IO was in Gilgit-Baltistan, his number was also switched off, it would take 10 to 15 days, and until contact was established, nothing could be said. The judge said he would write a detailed order and adjourned the hearing until October 13.
