MULTAN, Oct 05 (APP):The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL)
UFG Control Task Force intensified its crackdown on gas theft, illegal usage and technical violations and disconnected 85 metres over serious violations.
According to the latest and weekly performance figures, the task force has inspected and checked 1,330 locations in different areas of Multan, disconnecting a total of 85 gas meters over serious violations of
rules and regulations.
During the operations, 43 meters were disconnected over the use of illegal gas compressors, including 28 in previous operations and 15 during the latest drive. Illegal extensions were removed at nine locations, while 13 meters were disconnected for being installed in reverse.
Similarly, nine meters were disconnected for commercial use, four for illegal shifting, five on consumers’ own requests, and one due to the consumer being located away from the service area. One case of direct gas usage was also detected.
SNGPL officials said the continued operation was aimed at eliminating gas theft, restoring system pressure, addressing public complaints promptly and ensuring an uninterrupted and safe gas supply to consumers.
The General Manager SNGPL Multan urged consumers to strictly follow safety precautions, saying the protection of their lives and property was the company’s top priority.
He advised consumers to check for any smell of gas before using gas appliances. In case of a gas leak or smell, they should immediately open all doors and windows and avoid switching on any electrical or gas-powered appliance.
The general manager said strict and indiscriminate legal action against gas theft and other illegal activities would continue without interruption to ensure safe and quality services for all consumers.
