Solar power gains momentum across Pakistan

The increasing use of solar power across Pakistan is enabling households and small businesses to generate their own electricity, reducing reliance on conventional power sources and promoting a cleaner environment.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 04 (APP):The increasing use of solar power across Pakistan is enabling households and small businesses to generate their own electricity, reducing reliance on conventional power sources and promoting a cleaner environment.
The growing adoption of solar energy reflects increasing public interest in affordable and reliable electricity, as more citizens recognize sunlight as a clean and renewable source of power.
Solar panels are now becoming a common sight on rooftops of homes, shops, schools and small factories across the country, with families and business owners increasingly turning to solar systems to meet their daily electricity needs.
One of the key advantages of solar power is that it enables consumers to generate electricity directly from sunlight, providing a renewable source of energy while offering an opportunity to manage household and business electricity needs more efficiently.
Citizens say solar power is increasingly being viewed not only as an alternative source of electricity but also as a smart investment that can provide long-term benefits to households and businesses.
The growing presence of solar panels across residential and commercial areas also reflects a broader public shift towards cleaner energy solutions and greater energy self-reliance.
For many consumers, the transition to solar is therefore not merely about reducing electricity expenses but also about becoming part of a cleaner, greener and more sustainable energy future for Pakistan.
Families using solar systems say the ability to produce their own electricity has given them a greater sense of self-reliance and helped them plan their household expenses over the long term.
Shafiq Ahmad, a resident of federal capital who recently installed a 3kW solar system said, “We are very happy with our decision. We are producing our own electricity during the day and our home stays bright and comfortable. It is good for our budget and good for the environment.”
He said the net-metering facility was also encouraging, as it allowed consumers to use solar-generated electricity during the day and feed surplus electricity into the system.
“It feels good to be part of a cleaner and greener Pakistan,” he added.
The resident said that before installing solar panels, his family had to remain cautious about using certain household appliances during the day.
“Earlier, we were very careful about using home appliances during the day. Now, with solar, we can run the washing machine and refrigerator with peace of mind because we are producing our own clean electricity,” he said.
Small business owners are also embracing solar energy, viewing it as a practical investment that can help them meet their daily electricity requirements.
Alamgir Saeed, a small business owner running a tailoring shop said solar power had been particularly helpful for his work.
“Solar has been very helpful for my work as I can run my sewing machines and lights without any worry. Customers also appreciate that my shop is always open and well-lit,” he said.
He said he had been looking for a long-term solution for his business and considered solar energy a worthwhile investment.
“Solar is a one-time investment that provides daily benefits. It is a good investment for any small business,” he added.
A school teacher, Imrana Yaseen said the growing use of solar energy was also creating greater awareness among children about renewable energy.
“We taught our children about renewable energy in books, and now they can see it on our own roof,” she said.
She described it as a proud feeling for her family to use clean energy at home and said the experience was helping children understand the importance of renewable energy in practical terms.
