ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP):A delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), led by Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, on Saturday called on President Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Dr Muhammad Najib Khan and Speaker of the AJK Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, and discussed the latest situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The meeting discussed Indian actions in IIOJK, alleged human rights violations, the situation of Hurriyat leaders and activists, and efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue at the international level.
The AJK president said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was an internationally recognized issue and its final settlement should be in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, a press release issued here said.
He said the Kashmiri people should be given their right to self-determination to decide their future, and appreciated Pakistan’s political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmir cause.
Dr Najib Khan said the unilateral actions of August 5, 2019 could not change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir or affect the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
He called upon the international community to take notice of the situation in IIOJK and urged the UN human rights bodies and international observers to be given access to the territory for an impartial assessment of the situation.
The president also called for highlighting alleged human rights violations, arrests of political activists and Hurriyat leaders and restrictions on freedom of expression in IIOJK.
He said the United Nations should fulfill its commitments to the Kashmiri people and urged the international community to press India for implementation of relevant UN resolutions.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, has stated that the unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, cannot alter the disputed status of the Kashmir issue, nor can such actions extinguish the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. The international community should take serious notice of the situation in Indian–administered Jammu and Kashmir and play an effective role in protecting the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
He further added that sustainable peace and stability in South Asia are tied to a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. Instead of the use of force and unilateral actions, a political solution to the problem should be sought through dialogue, international law, and by respecting the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and the entire Hurriyat leadership extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi on his election as President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Chaudhry Tariq Farooq as Speaker of the Assembly.
On this occasion, All Parties Hurriyat Conference Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi briefed the President of Azad Kashmir on the latest situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and the difficulties faced by the Hurriyat leadership and workers. He stated that the Hurriyat Conference will continue its political and diplomatic struggle to highlight the Kashmir issue at the global level and secure the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.
The delegation included Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, General Secretary Advocate Pervaiz Ahmed Shah, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob, Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal and Information Secretary Imtiaz Wani.
The participants resolved that the political leadership of Pakistan and AJK, the Hurriyat Conference and other stakeholders would continue joint efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue internationally and convey the voice of the Kashmiri people to the world.
