Lahore CTO orders strict enforcement of traffic rules

LAHORE, Oct 03 (APP):Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi on Saturday directed traffic officers to take effective measures to improve the city’s traffic system and ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property.
During a meeting with traffic officers,the CTO briefed participants on the “Safe Road, Safe Punjab” vision and directed a zero-tolerance policy against smog,vehicle overloading,underage driving and motorcycle riding without helmets.
Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said protection of the lives and property of citizens was the top priority.
He ordered a comprehensive review of traffic arrangements at all entry and exit points of the city and directed officers to ensure lane discipline.
The CTO said the concerned Sector In-charge and DSP would be held accountable for any laxity in enforcing helmet laws.
He directed that motorcycle riding without helmets,one-way violations and breaches of lane discipline should not be allowed anywhere in the city.
The meeting also decided to launch an awareness campaign for pedestrians crossing roads and install warning signs at various locations.
The CTO ordered a strict crackdown on freight vehicles,including those transporting sand,soil and straw and directed that tractor-trolleys and other loader vehicles should not be allowed on roads without tarpaulin covers.
He also directed traffic officers to check the licenses of all commercial vehicle drivers and ensure strict implementation of traffic rules to maintain orderly traffic in the city
