DPM Dar for Balochistan’s energy security, restoring SSGCL’s financial sustainability

The deputy prime minister underscored the vital importance of ensuring energy security in Balochistan while restoring the operational and financial sustainability of SSGCL.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP): ​Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday chaired a high-level committee meeting on the issue of mounting Unaccounted-for Gas (UFG) losses of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).

The committee was briefed on the critical operational challenges, financial impacts, and rising distribution losses affecting SSGCL’s network. The committee evaluated strategic measures to curb illegal connections, upgrade pipeline infrastructure, improve revenue collection, and stabilise gas supply for legitimate consumers.

The deputy prime minister underscored the vital importance of ensuring energy security in Balochistan while restoring the operational and financial sustainability of SSGCL.

He directed the authorities concerned to formulate a targeted, time-bound strategy to cut UFG losses, enforce strict protocols, protect public resources, and ensure public facilitation.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Public Affairs Unit Rana Mubashar Iqbal, SAPM Tariq Bajwa; Secretary Interior, Secretary Petroleum; Chief Secretary Balochistan, and senior officials from the ministries of energy and foreign affairs.
